PLAY MAHLER 6 in a weekend
with Maxime Tortelier
Saturday 7th - Sunday 8th September 2024
Bournemouth School for Girls | Bournemouth BH8 9UJ
Our Mahler Symphony in a weekend has become an annual event. It’s a great opportunity to work intensively on these iconic symphonies in an informal environment, culminating in a final play-through at the end of the weekend. As well as our regular members, each year we are joined by additional non-member players to boost the orchestra to the vast numbers that these works require.
We are delighted to once more work with renowned Conductor, Maxime Tortelier for this year’s project. We first engaged Max following his term as the Leverhulme Young Conductor in Association with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, for our Mahler 2 weekend project. Maxime proves extremely popular with our players and audience alike, and has continued to explore the Mahler cycle with us ever since. We are delighted to welcome him again for our Mahler 6 weekend. Find out more about Maxime on his website.
Mahler's symphonies are a true cornerstone in the orchestral repertoire, not often attempted by amateur orchestras. The weekend is a great opportunity to get to grips with this thrilling piece of music as well as work with a truly talented conductor. The goal of the weekend is high-quality music-making. As such, there is a minimum Grade 8 standard requirement and we welcome people whether they have played with us before or not.
